IMG_6238

I met this wonderful woman at the Wolfsonian Museum’s party for Todd Olham’s new show.

Julie Tran Lê made a 1,000 little rolled pieces of red velvet cake balls crumbled with cream cheese frosting, dipped in chocolate, and rolled in coconut. All for the Wolfsonian Museum opening.

And, get this. She’s a baker and a librarian! She heads the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Library. DREAMDATE!

Go buy some Sweet Jewels Cake Balls at sweetjewelsnyc.com

The Germans Love Kehinde Too

Audi wanted to unveil its newest luxury car during Art Basel week but couldn’t find a venue grand enough for the occasion. So it built one instead.

The 42,000 square foot oceanfront space houses Audi’s latest model, the $100,000 A8. When you enter the humongous space you’re greeted with Kehinde Wiley’s art.

…so, in other words. Kehinde Wiley is EVERYWHERE.

Kehinde Wiley Does the King of Pop

Kehinde does the king of pop

Michael

via Art Market Monitor:

Jeffrey Deitch sold the Kehinde Wiley portrait of Michael Jackson for $175,000 at ArtBasel in Miami. Agence France Presse adds some color and detail to the whole tale:

“Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II,” commissioned by Jackson, who died on June 25, was sold to a German collector at the Art Basel show here, said Kathy Grayson from New York’s Deitch Projects gallery. The painting had been on display here until late Sunday. The large portrait, which Jackson never saw in its finished form, measures 3.51 meters (11.5 feet) by 3.1 meters (10.1 feet), and is the work of New York-based artist Kehinde Wiley.
